If only the Birthers could DIE.

Many of you following American politics know that President Obama has begun his campaign for the 2012 election. Many people have been excited about this, some people for the wrong reasons. Who may those some people be? Well they include none other than Business tycoon Donald Trump. Trump, who I used to like very much before his recent actions, began to berate and bully the President's image by claiming that he was not born in the USA. Many of you know that one of the qualifications for Presidential candidcy is a natural born US citizenship. The President who is infact a natural born US citizen, was born in the American state of Hawaii. On April 27, 2011 the White House released Obama's official birth certificate....hmmm you see the mere fact that it was released upsets me. Don't get me wrong. I'm not upset with the white house, but with the utterly daft and seemingly inadequate individual who is Donald Trump. Since when is it okay to disrespect your President in such a manner and feel that it makes you a man? Due to the color of his skin, the American President has to prove his country of citizenship and his competency.

I guess you CAN'T please everyone!!

For three days straight there have been protests in the street against the current President, Jonathan. Many of us have seen this coming as the newspapers in the states have reported conflicting results about who won. There has also been a vaccuum-a lack of information that has been coming out of Nigeria about the results AND the protests that have been taking place. We can only hope and pray that peace can be restored to Nigeria.

Same old Same old

Well it's looking lke the "same old same old" for Africa's most populous country. Nigeria held it's elections that were free of violence and intimidation (i'm sorry it just feels so good to say that). The results? well we're still waiting. It's been reported that current president, Goodluck Jonathan from the PDP political party is leading in the polls while Nuhu Ribadu seems to be leading in the Muslim north. Results are still coming in, but as we can see there seems to be no "new day" for Nigerian politics as Jonathan is still being counted as the frontrunner.

Celebrity look-alikes lol

I thought I was the only one who thought Gaddafi looks like a Jim Henson Puppet hahahahahaha.

You know I love Zebras right??? Thanks Bing

Oh NO They DIDN'T!!!!!

...Oh YES they DID. The French that is. Unless you've been under a rock this past week, you've heard that the French government has begun enforcing its law about banning French women (...or should I say women in France) from wearing the burqa in public. For those of you who don't know the Burqa is a full covering the entire cloth that covers all the way from the top of a woman's head to her toes...yes this will include her face. So this means that women can still wear the hijab, or headscarf...whatever we're calling it this week. However, how long is that going to last? If you ask me, I think that if they've already banned the hijab in public schools, because of laicite (secularism) and they're banning the burqa in public, it's only a matter of time that the hijab will be banned. Where's Amnesty International when you need them? Where's the march?? gosh I haven't been in a good march since 2004 when i protested the war on Iraq. I would participate in this march if I hear about a reallly really good serious one...oh well, I guess I'll wait.

Nigerian votes counted.

Yesterday marked the election of Parliamentary offficials in Nigeria. Many of you remember that the elections yesterday were delayed from last saturday, when election materials were not available for all polling stations. The organization of the election was noted and there was very tight security at the polling stations. However, reviews of safety of the elections were mixed. As BBC reports that an EU observer stated there was "almost no disorder and no intimidation" there were reports of a bombing in Maiduguri in which 3 people died, there was also a political official who was shot dead in Borno state. Next Saturday will mark the Presidential Election. Who do you think will win? I have an idea, but I'm not going to ruin it for everyone so as I always say with Naija politics, I'll keep my ear on the ground for all of you (wink).

congratulations Ouattara!!!

Ouattara is now President Elect Ouattara of Ivory Coast. He has often been perceived as the rightful winner of the Ivorian electionsm there has been lots of bloodshed due to protests agains Gbagbo. Ouattara, however is not a stranger to controversy especially when it concerns Ivory Coast's latest election. He was first ousted from the election when former President, Laurent Gbagbo, accused him of not being born in Ivory Coast (a requirement for being a Presidential candidate). Labeled a foreigner by Gbagbo, Ouattara was born in Ivory Coast when it was still a French colony ( big deal Gbagbo suck it up!!)

when Elephants Fight...

The bloodiest event.it seems like everytime I mention events in Ivory Coast, it starts with that day's events being "the bloodiest. We can only hope that this event will be the last.
According to CNN 800 people were shot to death on April 2nd. Finger parten has begun as the camp of Laurwnt Gbagbo blames Ouattara, whom some view as the rightful winner of the election. However, Gbagbo is also viewed by many as the one behind the attacks asmany of the attacks which have happened in the past oiginate from him, though he has nevermade an official statement admitting to being behind the attacks. This can only be described as yet another event where it shows that corrupt politicians never have the interest of the people they serve at heart.
