The effects...

Why is this happening? Why can't we just accept what's written and move to a more positive reality instead of the mudslinging and bullying that has happened since Obama has won this latest election?
Readers it saddens me to report that Ambassador Susan Rice will no longer be considered for Secretary of State. The bullying, tormenting, and partisan politics following the speculations into the attacks on the US Embassy in Benghazi have caused her to withdraw her name from consideration. I personally look to Ambassador Rice as my icon. She's so driven, so intelligent and has balanced being a mom, a professional, and helping lead the free world. I am so afraid to see what the alternative is, but we have no choice....and as always I'll be watching..

Hurricane Sandy Victims. You will make it.

This is me celebrating my 28th Birthday in Atlantic City earlier this year.
This is the very same spot in Atlantic City after Hurricane Sandy
To all who were affected by Hurricane Sandy, my thoughts and prayers are with you. In the East coast of USA; my former home, America has lost over 100 people to the force of the storm. Over 40 people have died in the Caribbean. New Jersey and New York were the "eye of the storm" as they were hit worst, affecting tourist sites like Atlantic City, the Jersey Shore, and annual events like the ING Marathon in New York City. Many people are still without power or water. New Jersey has been rationing days drivers can get gass according to their license plate numbers, and there are people who have lost EVERYTHING. Please find a charity in your area donating to victims, and give what you can. Many of you who were affected are Zee readers. If you personally know anyone who needs resources, toiletries or in-kind gifts email me and tell me how I can help. I'll be sending items this week.
It's been a while since i've written about South African politics. However, today I had to say something, because it was brought to mainstream media's attention just how trifling irresponsible Jacob Zuma's administration has been. We have seen him marry a woman 30 years his junior and cyphone funding. We have also seen members of his political party eat sushi off of a woman's body. The Zee Affairs post about the sushi event is to date the most popular post on this site. It still receives mind blowing hits. People just can't believe how CORRUPT those politicians were. Zuma's ANC party is the party that ended apartheid and today it was written in the Washington Post just how disillusion the South African Public is with the party. It's not enough that there are high levels of crime in South Africa with car jackings and violence. Zuma's fraudulent activities have created the prime example of a corrupt state. You may remember the 80,000 miners who went on strike earlier this year, because of poor pay and benefits. Washington Post went on to say
"...the number of violent protests this year, mostly over land, inadequate housing and poor services, has grown dramatically from previous years."
Wake up Zuma. Don't make South Africa into another sleeping giant.

Who was this man? Peep the stripe to find out!

This was Senator McGovern. He is probably most known as the President that America probably never had. Running for office against Nixon during the notorious Watergate incident. He suffered the biggest Election defeat in American history as he only claimed 37.5 percent of the American vote. McGovern was a university professor turned politician who made history as (at the time) the first politician from South Dakota to be elected to the House of Representatives in 22 years and to Senate in 26 years. A liberal who held Christian values. He is also well known for establishing and successfully operating the Kennedy Food Program; an operation that sent surplus food overseas and stated by McGovern himself to be one of his proudest achievements. McGovern contributed many other benefits to America and the world. He died this morning. He was 90 years old, and will surely be missed. Rest in Peace

America's Election... Foreign Effects.

And so it's wrapping up... I must say though the excitement is not as hot as it was back in 08, and the Election is less than 20 days away. We know what America wants, but what are the sentiments about the election overseas? I'll tell you this! Not much has changed. Mitt Romney has repeatedly gone overseas and been booed, because of his verbal gaffes (like calling Russia our enemy...remember that?) However, he's also gaining the support of some Arabs who felt Obama had not done enough for their autonomy. It's a mixed bag, needing more explanation which I'm sure we'll get Monday night. Oh yes! Monday night's debate is the final Presidential debate from Camp David and Foreign Affairs being Obama's strong suit, I have a feeling it will be even more entertaining than the debate last thursday. I'll be tweeting live from @zeeaffairs so follow and stay up to date.

When your idol meets her idol

Many of you know how much I love Susan Rice. I absolutely am blown away by Susan Rice. So it was interesting for me to see that there's someone who impresses her as well. This week she met with Aung San Suu Kyi, the human rights advocate who was exiled from her land. Rice called Suu Kyi her "role model." Now that's a big badge of honor.

Romney Scared?

In the latest edition of "That's Not Fair" : Mitt Romney wants officials to dumb down the upcoming debate between him and President Obama. This only proves to me that there are no real politicians among Republicans. According to CNN the official quote from Romney's campaign was that Obama will "use his ample rhetorical gifts and debating experience to one end: attacking Romney." Well DUH! (As my 12 year old self used to say). Isn't that the purpose of a debate anyway? I mean they aren't necessarily there to make friends are they? Isn't Romney supposed to be a governor's son? I mean if he spent more money on books than on rotating luxury car garages maybe (just maybe) he might have some eloquence when he speaks. Obama's Rhetorical gifts huh? They aint seen nothin' yet.

What do you take with you when...?

In the latest edition of "Fall From Grace": It's always said by elders not to be greedy, because when we die we can not take material things with us. Imelda Marcos surely missed that memo.Immelda Marcos is probably known for her 1,220 shoe collection. Designer shoe collection that is.
However, breaking news this morning showed that karma is surely a bitch going to catch up with people. You see termites and mold have ruined the designer shoe collection when the items were neglected after a massive earthquake and flood an earthquake happened in the Philippines years ago. The flood affected a museum where Marcos' most precious shoes were stored. When Museum staffers noticed water flowing in from underneath a door, they opened it and sent Marcos' shoes and evening gowns busting through the museum. Needless to say the water damage and mold mean the items HAVE to be thrown away...Imean who would want those dreadful, (and now) disgusting shoes. I know what you're thinking so I'll just say it. "Yes there is a God."

Checkmate...

So it finally caught up with him. The Nigerian Military finally killed the head of Islamic Militant group "Boko Haram." How do I feel? It couldn't have happened at a better time. Yes, I do feel it will be effective. It's time to take these negative groups apart piece by piece so that we as a whole can have peace. It's good for the world and (as seen from yesterday's article) It's good for Africa.

Africa Burning

It seems like the Africa (as we know it) is rapidly changing before our eyes and under our feet. What happens when religious fundamentalists hijack the news? Heroes, ambassadors, innocent tourists, and the like are killed. I am still trying to fathom the horrendous news of Ambassador Stevens' death. It seems like that was only the beginning, following that was the murder of tourists in Khartoum, Sudan on Friday, and yesterday (Saturday September 15th) the US ordered all "non essential staff" to leave Tunis, Tunisia for fear of further violence. Not only do I wish for it to stop, but I also wonder about the actions of those who incited these attacks in the first place. As sane individuals we don't allow films to dictate our actions and can correctly channel our anger to constructive use. However, religious fanatics (as we've seen in the past with danish cartoons) can not. Libya has arrested 50 individuals that the government suspected were behind the attacks. However, I feel that in addition to this, individuals must display cultural sensitivity with films, books, and other media, because of the violence it may (when put in the wrong hands) cause.

The RIGHT side of History

WOW Now you know your teams a winner when PM David Cameron and President Obama are cheering for you. Yesterday the Chelsea Football (soccer) club was competing for the UEFA championship against Bayern Munich; hence German Chancellor Merkel's presence in this photo. The image was captured upon Chelsea's win of the cup. More pix of Chelsea's celebration to come.

Unfolding the Conversation

My Hero, Ambassador Rice conversed with us and the New York Times' Nick Kristoff as we hung out on Thursday and responded to questions about her strategy in solving problems around the world. Stating that there isn’t a “single equation to foreign policy problems.” Ambassador Rice went on to explain that foreign affairs complexities occur, because in one country (or even one war) there are different cultural and human rights issues that come to surface. Citing the example of Sudan, she explained that Khartoum ‘s issue brings about a multitude of problems including: How to get access to the people who need help, the north and South Sudan issue, and the Tripartite agreements. “…we’re in a different point and time than in 2008..the crisis in Darfur is in a different level than it was four years ago” she claimed, indicating that now there’s an ongoing conflict between rebel and political organization.

This differs from the genocide by government which heightened in 2008…True, very true. The campaigns of “Save Darfur” seem to be obsolete now that a new and troubled south Sudan has come to its independence. UN African peacekeeping force has much more on their hands and we as a public should focus more on these issues. Unfortunately, we’re often distracted by issues in other parts of the world which further brings to light Ambassador Rice’s view that in foreign policy there’s a lot of problems to address in tandem so we “can’t focus on one and forget the rest.” I agree, and I think we can all get that.
Duly Noted Ambassador Rice!

Who's buying Facebook!!

Facebook has FINALLY (finally) gone public on the stock exchange. This means everyone is looking for their next big break. To tell you how desperate, Facebook announced two weeks ago that it would be trading its shares at 24 dollars. Yet announced yesterday that the real price is 38 dollars....And we still don't care. Everyone is looking to become the world's next billionaire. Bono the Irish humanitarian/rocker has publicly stated that he'd be buying shares. There's also a man who invested his daughter's entire college savings in facebook...Then there's me...Zee Zee just on the edge of my seat, waiting for the NASDAQ market to open. Yes i'm buying too. So now I'm wondering. Are you? Let me know, because this could be THE NEXT BIG THING (wink)

Who needs a husband!!!

Put your hands down desperate. This story is for women who were divorcees in Kano State Nigeria. Pretty interesting being that they marry so young divorcees are often overlooked. However, according to BBC Africa, 1000 couples are to be wed in the mass wedding. Medical screenings for AIDS have been performed on the couples. The Hizba board,  main islamic authority in Kano state, started this to  stop what it calls the massive homelessness and begging in their streats after women are divorced from their husbands. It's an arranged marriage, and if the couples choose to divorce afterward they must have permission from the Hizba board.

Oprah voice : "You LIED to me!"

So it's been rought to my attention that the article about a scorned girlfriend extracting her ex's teeth was....a hoax??? really??? When that got my attention I was extermemely and utterly pissed. Not, because I wrote it or wasted my time on it, but because it seems like people will do anything for fame. C'mon people. Reputable news agencies have  done extensive work and written on this story like MSNBC, Huffington Post (where I found the story), and ABCNews. However, it was proven false when someone in the said boyfriend's neighborhood wrote to the news stating that his teeth were already gone before he left the said girlfriend. Dentists then came forward stating that as soon as the anasthesia wore off, he would have felt gums...instead of teeth. So does this mean she extracted them before they broke up??? Is he even really toothless???  Honesatly, there are more crucial things happening in our world than for me to focus on a story that may not even exist.
Good luck to them.

Are they really Saving the Children?

This picture and others like these is why I went into International Relations. I wanted to help people and I still do.
That's why I get angry when I read articles like the UN briefing today where the NGO "Save the Children" calls Niger the "Worst place for Mothers."...Really??
Really "Save the Children?" The worst place for Mothers? You couldnt find a better term. After all this is diplomacy. I'm sure diplomats and all IR professionals know how to play with words. Couldn't they have launched a larger campaign instead of the one I've seen since I was 16 about Jose who doesn't have shoes (c'mon you know you've seen that too).

I remember my senior year of college learning about the drought Niger had, the ant invasion that came after, and the massive deaths of babies that came later. All pictures too graphic to post. I understand the mal nutrition, poverty levels, and low employment that Save the Children used to justify  their label of Niger. However, I do not understand how using a negative label will change the situation. Such labels dispel support and create a hopeless image of an otherwise promising country.
So "Save the Children" think of your organization's name next time you issue international campaigns.Think of who you're hurting, rather than helping.

SAY IT ISN'T SOOOO!!!

OHHHHHH....S*IT, sugardumplings Sugar Honey Iced Tea (you know what I'm trying to say. The thing is, everyone saw this coming but me. Ever the optimist, I never thought this would happen. Sarkozy is no longer the President of France?? Say it isn't so!!

Well this is how it went down
Zee run down:
(hush toned voice): So this is how it went down. A runoff election happened in France giving Francois Hollande (a socialist party member) 52% of the vote and Sarkozy 48%. Sarkozy;close to tears then issued a statement saying Holland is the President and "Should be respected" [insert an "mmmmhmmm" here"]
Now that you've been brought up to speed let's look at the implications. Remember not so long ago when Greece and Italy were having debt woes? Sarkoy (France) and Merkel(Germany) were negotiating deals. What is Hollande going to do about all of these deals? EXACTLY....you know he's scrappin' it. He said he's going to re-negotiate the Eurozone debt crisis, which means Greece and Italy better get their acts together, because as Will-I-Am said in his video "It's A New Dayyyy."

I'm holdin on tight, and I hope you are too, because this is gonna be quite a ride.

She said "I got sumthin for yo' a**"

So "What do you do when your boyfriend breaks up with you?" Tow his car? Maybe key his car? Well as these sound like extreme measures they're still more common than what I heard today. In London, UK a man decided to break up with his girlfriend who (by the way) happens to be a dentist. If that sounds like he's stupid you haven't heard anything yet which says to me that he deserved what ended up happening to him in the first place. This fool scheduled an appointment with the said "dentist/girlfriend" and what did she do????? She extracted all 32 of his teeth....
Now THAT'S FUNNY...but you still haven't heard it all. The gentleman's new girlfriend broke up with him because she just couldn't bear having a bf with no teeth....awww, how pragmatic. Obie Trice said it best: In his "Gotta have Teeth!" video. It sucks to be him.

Zee run down: So the man 45 scheduled an appointment with his 32 year old ex girlfriend saying "I thought she was a professional." However the girlfriend was thinking "What a bastard." He said he knew something was wrong when he " woke up and couldn't feel any teeth in his mouth."

You know, this is why some guys dont like to be with us young girls. I mean I'm not in to that sort of thing but do you know how bad she's made it for girls around the world seeking sugar daddys? Geesh...she done messed up the game.. Anyway, she's in jail for three years and he's saving money for dental work mmmhmmm.

Here we go...

How pathetically ironic can Zimmerman get. I mean really????? really. I'm all for defending yourself even when you're backed up against the wall but.......really? Zimmerman still claims #Trayvon Martin chased him (not vice versa). However there's a tape where Police dispatchers are telling him NOT to pursue Martin.

By the way that tape reminds me of someone trying to fight a bully with no back up...you look like a fool. Zimmerman not only looks like a fool, but he looks guilty. He has a lawyer who I'll bet you my entire student loan debt is writing a book about this case as we speak. Let's face it Zimmerman is going to jail as he should. However, I guess it wouldn't be entertaining if we don't add the right amount of suspense and drama.

Let's watch, shall we...

RIP #TrayvonMartin

We shut City Hall DOWN

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Oh my my my....The events that have happened today have been long awaited. Trayvon Martin's murderer Zimmerman has been charged with 2nd Degree murder and is currently being held without bail after turning himself into authorities earlier today.
Well it's about time...Isn't it? Zimmerman used the "Stand your Ground" Law; allowing one to shoot and (possibly) kill another person on the basis of "feeling threatened.", as his defense to kill Martin. Trayvon Martin was walking to his home holding candy and an ice tea. All we asked for was for his killer, Zimmerman to be brought to justice.

Desolved:
February 28th-Trayvon Martin 17 shot
March 13th Police chief says Zimmerman won't be charged
March 15th-Police release 911 tapes
March 19th investigation lauched
March 22nd-police chief "steps aside"
March 23-Obama announces "If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon"
March 28-29 Zimmerman's father and brother appear on Television
April 11th-Zimmerman turns himself in and charged

We have signed petitions, we have stood in the cold and NOW justice is done. Though we had leaders on our side recognition must be established. Young people like myself, or even younger than me are responsible for not letting this case be ignored.
VICTORY IS OURS!! VICTORY IS OURS!! Martin your death is NOT in vain.

Do I look suspicious to you?

UPDATE: Since the original posting the Chief of Police in this case has received a Vote of No Confidence"
cont'd
Do they look suspicious to you? These are Howard University Law Students protesting the murder of Trayvon Martin. The teenager murdered by a vigilante on the basis that he "looked suspicious." The murderer, Zimmerman, is still a free man as he faces no prosecution. Protesters around the US have joined the movement of "Million Hood March" stating that one's dress should not be a price they pay with their life. It was found that Trayvon Martin was leaving the store with a bag of skittles and a soda.
Rest In Peace Trayvon....You didn't deserve this.
